Editorial policy

Sourcing

• Every factual claim is cited or removed. A specification without a source does not ship. This is enforced by the content model itself: a spec is either a value with a source attached or an explicit “not published”, and there is no third option.
• Manufacturer first, retail listing second. Where we can retrieve the maker’s own product page we cite that. Where we cannot, we cite the brand’s own retail listing and label it as such rather than presenting it as a spec sheet.
• No transferred figures. A weight published for one product in a range is not evidence for another product in that range.
• No numbers from memory. Ever, for any figure, including prices.
• Consensus is named. If we say something is widely recommended, we name the publishers we are describing.

Disagreement

Where sources conflict, we publish the conflict. Buyer reports on LEUCHTTURM1917 bleed-through split down the middle; one retail listing describes a Jinhao nib as fine while its own attribute field gives a figure three times wider. In both cases the disagreement is the most useful thing on the page, and flattening it into a confident answer would be a worse article.

What we will not publish

• A claim of hands-on testing, product ownership or a test lab, because none exist here.
• A credential the author does not hold, or any framing of the author by tenure — no “long-time”, “veteran”, “seasoned” or “expert”.
• A rating, review count or star score of our own for a product we have not used. The machine-readable schema on this site emits Product and Offer data only, and deliberately no Review or aggregateRating node.
• Testimonials. Nib & Notebook has no customers and therefore no testimonials to show.
• A price in body copy, because it is wrong within a month of being written.
• An internal link to a page that does not exist. The build fails if one is found.

Corrections

Errors are corrected in place, and the page’s “updated” date changes when they are. Material corrections — a changed recommendation, a withdrawn claim, a specification that turns out to be wrong — are noted on the page itself rather than made silently.

Update cadence

• Prices: daily and automatic. A price older than 48 hours is hidden rather than shown.
• Roundups: quarterly, or immediately on a discontinuation.
• Model reviews and paper profiles: every six months, or on a specification change.
• Reference guides: annually, or when a new model changes a compatibility table.
• Trust pages: annually, or immediately on any change to how we are funded.

A price refresh is not an editorial update. The daily price job does not change any page’s updated date and does not restamp the sitemap. Only a genuine content change does, because a site that claims every page changed every day teaches search engines to ignore the field.

Independence

No payment, gift or relationship influences a recommendation or its position. We accept no free products and no sponsored content. Affiliate commission is the only revenue this site has, and how it works is set out in full in the affiliate disclosure.
